About this event

Join us Saturday May 4th from 6pm-11pm, Psychedelic Arts and Culture Trust or PACT is pleased to host an art exhibition benefiting the Wixarika Artists.

We are honored to extend a gracious welcome to the Wixarika artists to Grass Valley for an exhibition featuring the artwork of Wixarika tribal members from the Sierra Madre Mountain Range in Mexico. Their presence signifies our dedication to preserving not only ancient stories, but also the rich cosmovision and cultural heritage through these evocative visual representations.

The exhibition will showcase the incredible Wixárika nierikas. Nierikas are beautiful works of art created from visions that come to the artists during religious ceremonies. These brightly colorful petitions to the gods are made from yarn and beads glued to wood panels in intricate figurative and abstract compositions of a rich iconography including images of deer, cacti, and fire. As well as the extraordinary yarn and beaded art, the exhibit will also share unique photographs of the Wixárika people taken during the last five years, walking side by side with the pilgrims, and at the ceremonial center of Tunuwame.

Special guest speaker, Tribal elder Doña Lupita will be talking about the Wixarika traditional art and cultural preservation.

We’ll also have special musical guests A Path Untold and Iyakuh and delicious food from Diegos!

Every donation, sale of art and photographs supports the artists and their families. All purchases and donations are 100% tax deductible!

Purchases are an act of preservation of ecological biodiversity and an endangered culture.
